Introducing Redwood at Black Bear Academy

Get ready, Chicago!

A new school program is here for the 2024/2025 school year! Introducing Redwood @ Black Bear Academy.

Who is this program for?

Located in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, this program is designed for K-5th grade students with learning differences. Combining educational and social/emotional support, this model is ideal for children who are capable of learning grade-level content but need extra support.

Whether students need assistance with academics, self regulation, or social skills, our dedicated team provides the resources, guidance, and structure necessary for students to flourish.

What does this program include?

Key components of the Redwood @ Blackbear program include: '

-Individualized Attention: Small classes – typically one teacher and three to five students – ensure personalized instruction and focused support.

-Integrated Clinical Support: Students have access to occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social and emotional support, and psychological support.

-Flexible and Structured Environment: Flexibility and structure are both essential for the development of young minds, and we’ve been intentional about creating a space that emphasizes both.

-Conscious Discipline Approach: Students will learn self-regulation strategies to manage their emotions, develop empathy, and resolve conflicts constructively.

-Supportive Community: All of this essential work takes place in the context of community.

Why Redwood @ Black Bear?

Our comprehensive approach was designed to help students achieve academic success and develop critical life skills, all within a nurturing environment.

By integrating the strengths of Redwood and Blackbear into a single program, we offer the best of both worlds: evidence-based academics tailored to students with learning differences (including dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia) alongside individualized clinical support. This partnership empowers each student to succeed in the classroom, regardless of the challenges they may have faced in traditional school settings.
